Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains the data practices of Best AdBlocker for its website and Chrome browser extension. We want you to know exactly what information we handle, why we handle it, how long we keep it, and what control you have over it. Please read this document carefully. For the majority of users who simply install and use the extension, your exposure is minimal — we assign an anonymous, unique identifier to each installation and that is the primary way we recognize you. Most of the detail below is relevant to users who choose to contact us or make a donation.

Who oversees your data

The entity responsible for collecting, processing, and using personal information through our website and extension (the "Controller") can be reached using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

For the purposes of this policy, "personal information" refers to any data that relates to an identified or identifiable individual — someone who can be recognized directly or indirectly through identifiers such as a name, an IP address, location data, a device ID, or factors tied to their physical, economic, cultural, or social identity. Payment-related details also fall under this definition.

Non-identifying data gathered by the extension

Best AdBlocker collects anonymous usage data from the extension, including the extension version number, your preferred language, browser and operating system type, the number of advertisements blocked, and the number of blocked network requests. Each installation is also assigned an anonymous, unique identifier. We store aggregate statistics linked to that identifier indefinitely. This information helps us detect issues, measure the performance of features, and guide development priorities.

Identifying data we receive

When you visit the Best AdBlocker website, we collect your IP address, your unique installation ID, certain button-click events on our site (such as clicking "download" or "install"), and general user interaction data. Whenever the extension communicates with our servers — for example, during update checks — we also receive the device's IP address. We remove identifying details like IP addresses from our logs and databases after six months.

Crash and error diagnostics

If the extension encounters an error, a diagnostic report is automatically sent to our servers. This report includes the anonymous data described above, the current browser version, and a description of the error. If a URL is present in the error details, the extension will attempt to strip it out before sending the report. We use this information solely for debugging and identifying widespread defects. Error reports are deleted from our systems after 7 days.

Server request logs

We retain logs for general requests to our domains for up to 90 days. These logs contain the IP address, browser type, operating system, and the page requested. We anonymize the IP address immediately by replacing it with a hashed value and discarding the original. This data is used to generate usage statistics and to investigate potential security threats. After the 90-day window, logs are purged.

Logs tied to payment processing are retained in accordance with applicable tax law retention periods and are deleted once those periods expire. Payment logs may include IP address, email address (if provided), mailing address (if provided), name (if provided), browser type and version, operating system, payment amount, payment method, card type, expiration date, and the last four digits of the card number if a card was used. This information helps us understand the financial health of our operations.

Website and extension analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect and aggregate information about how visitors interact with our website and extension. We limit the scope of data shared with Google Analytics strictly to what is needed for improving our products. Google Analytics uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — to assess how you use our site. The information generated by these cookies, including a shortened version of your IP address, is transmitted to and stored on Google servers in the United States. Google may use this data to evaluate your activity, compile reports for us, and provide related services. Google may also transfer this data to third parties where required by law or where third parties process it on Google's behalf. You can learn more about Google's data practices and privacy policy at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245.

How we put collected data to work

We use usage and analytics data to maintain and improve the Best AdBlocker extension and website, to understand how our services are being used, and to help prevent fraudulent activity. This information is used internally only.

We have never sold — and will never sell — your personal information to any third party without your consent. On occasion, we may share anonymized, aggregated data that cannot be traced back to any individual with third parties or the public.

Circumstances where disclosure may occur

We cooperate with all valid United States law enforcement requests and court orders. Where possible, we will notify you about requests for your information using any email address we have on file. Certain legal instruments may prohibit us from informing you about a request or order.

We will not transfer your personal data to third parties as a matter of course. If such a transfer becomes necessary, we will inform you in advance and request your permission unless the transfer is permitted by the GDPR or other applicable legislation.

Keeping your data safe

All personal and usage information we collect is stored in our databases, and we take reasonable measures to keep it secure. However, no server or database is completely immune to risk, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data while it is stored in our systems or transmitted over the internet. You acknowledge that you use the Best AdBlocker website and extension at your own risk.

Legal grounds for processing under the GDPR

Best AdBlocker collects and processes your personal information in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable EU laws.

Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): We will ask for your consent before collecting and processing your personal information for the purposes described in this policy, unless such processing is already permitted by law. You may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of any processing that occurred before the withdrawal.

Contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Certain collection and processing is necessary to perform a contract with you or to take pre-contractual steps at your request — for example, when you install and use the extension or when payment is processed in connection with a donation.

Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): We may need to collect and process your information to comply with a legal obligation under EU law or the law of an EU Member State.

Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): We process data collected through extension downloads, update checks, error reports, and feedback you submit in order to maintain the security and usability of the extension. We also process server logs to defend against denial-of-service attacks and other security threats. Keeping the extension secure and functional is in both your interest and ours, and these activities form the basis of our legitimate interest.
